Atelier Davis
Palo Alto Eichler
Designer Jessica Davis and architect Gustave Carlson both understood the homeowner's priorities for a family home, one with a likeness for the home's Mid Century roots. It was the home of John S. Lynd who was an architect and personal friend of Joe Eichler. Joe designed a modified house for him on this very special lot.
The homeowner felt that it needed to be warm, welcoming, clearly a family home and unquestionably an Eichler. You'll notice a place of congregation where an open door policy was immediately understood and communicated. The goal was to respect the legacy of the California modern and this home’s strong historical pedigree with a twist. It is of modern style, with functionality with an indoor/outdoor California lifestyle.
Inspiration grew from the owner’s art collection of up-and-coming female artists. It's warm and inviting and not overly sterile, playing with colors found in the collection. There's a unifying palette of blues, corals, and yellows as well as the grounding tones of the wood, cork and natural stone that appears in the terrazzo. The mudroom is a bit of an homage to British arts and crafts style.
