Barbara Lane
The Barbara Lane house is located in West University, a neighborhood in Houston. The owners were enamored with southern architecture so a new house in a Georgian style was embraced. The house has been developed in a Tuscan order with scaled cornice and classical columns. The exterior material palette is composed of salvage red brick with painted accent bays. The roof material is slate highlighted with copper gutters and downspouts. Traditional shutters and chip and dale portico all contribute to this Georgian Revival.
The new house is L-shaped in form with public living spaces on the 1st floor and private rooms on 2nd floor. An outdoor living room and summer kitchen connect the house to garage and establish an axial relationship to backyard pool. An easterly facing breakfast room is developed aside garage apron to welcome a new day. Large northern window walls are developed facing the rear yard to enhance the interior-exterior experience. The diagram of the house allows for maximum connectivity to the outside while offering a sensitive solution to the natural and built fabric of the neighborhood.
