Campion Hruby Landscape Architects
Childs Point sits on eight acres along the South River in Annapolis, Maryland. The previous home tragically burned to the ground in a fire in 2015. Once the land healed, the new residents and landscape architect team set out to restore the flora and fauna ecosystem and design a healthy waterfront buffer. Through various methods - including rain gardens, bioswales, and a planting buffer - this project satisfied environmental regulation requirements to capture and filter rainwater prior to it entering the South River and Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Throughout the property, a rich palette of native plantings were intentionally selected to be an environmental asset and maximize views of the river.
The landscape architects collaborated with the architects to seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor spaces. Notably, a pool garden situated in the rear of the home was positioned with a dramatic water-to-water view, while a secluded fire pit was nestled between the house and lawn for an intimate entertaining area. The landscape design also integrated a protected arrival garden and visual screening methods to ensure a harmonious, secluded environment. Just as the restored, natural environment provides a sanctuary for the ecosystem, Childs Point acts as a safe haven for owners and guests alike.
