Vertical Studio

Born from the idea that constraint can be a catalyst for creativity, Vertical Studio reimagines a 13-square-meter room as a high-performance recording and experimental audio space. Once cluttered and acoustically ineffective, it was rebuilt with a reinforced concrete shell engineered beyond FEMA standards. This transformation doubled the ceiling height from 8 to 16 feet, unlocking vertical drama and unexpected spaciousness within a compact footprint.

A glass mezzanine accommodates two drum kits while maintaining openness, and a circular stair ascends to a rooftop deck shaded by a 70-year-old ash tree, framing views of the Los Angeles mountainscape. The space becomes a vertical passage, grounded in performance yet elevating toward contemplation.

Its versatility is notable: the studio shifts easily from recording and experimental audio to private screenings, wellness sessions, or overnight lodging. A fold-down bed and programmable lighting allow the environment to transform with purpose and mood.

Crafted from reclaimed materials and repurposed equipment, Vertical Studio is a jewel box of intention. Functionally exacting and emotionally resonant, it proves that even the smallest scale can achieve profound luxury and lasting impact.
