Nantucket Re-Creation

Following the dramatic renovation of the shingle-style home, attention turned to the landscape—transforming a broad lawn into a layered retreat. What emerged is a series of purposeful outdoor rooms that extend the home’s elegance outdoors, blending architecture and landscape, inviting gathering and reflection.
Stone terraces cascade from the rear of the house, mediating between architecture and nature. Their generous scale and refined materials establish a quiet procession through the landscape. Subtle grade changes and framed views define zones for dining, lounging, and circulation—offering distinct destinations without sacrificing openness.
Two architectural elements—the pool house and outdoor kitchen—anchor the site and lend structure. The pool house, part of the first phase we designed years earlier, provides symmetry and shelter. The kitchen, with its copper-capped roof, acts as a contemporary garden folly—both useful and sculptural—echoing the home’s palette while creating a convivial hub for cooking and entertaining.
The refurbished pool reflects surrounding textures and plantings, adding movement and rhythm. Thoughtful plantings provide texture, color, and seasonal interest, ensuring the landscape evolves gracefully throughout the year.
This landscape is not an accessory, it’s the final chapter of a cohesive vision: a refined, restorative environment, connected to home and setting.
