Modern Scandinavian Retreat
Cradled by lake on three sides, the original cottage was inwardly focused, failing to capitalize on its extraordinary setting. The renovation reoriented the home toward the lake through expansive windows and sliding doors, creating transparency and strong connections to the outdoors.
Gutted to its shell, the old maze like plan was replaced with open circulation and long views through the house and out to the lake. Circulation is intuitive, social zones overlap, and every pause meets a view of water or sky.
A new north-facing bay expands the main floor and frames panoramic vistas, while a two-sided limestone fireplace with a floating hearth anchors the interior. The kitchen features rift-cut walnut cabinetry with soft corners and floating shelves, offering both elegance and functionality. Paneled walls and built-ins subtly define spaces without interrupting views.
A screened porch and pergola welcome morning light, while a west-facing deck and lake-level terrace invite sunset gatherings and sailboat watching.
Repositioning the stairs opened the lower level into a generous family space. Bi fold doors open to the lake, while a circular fireplace and curved cabinetry provide character and warmth.
Embracing mid-century spirit, the home balances warmth, simplicity, and indoor–outdoor harmony—creating a timeless, deeply personal retreat.
