Lakefront Idyll
Built directly within the footprint of a demolished foundation, the Courtyard at our Lakefront Idyll project exemplifies how design can transform loss into renewal. Existing foundation walls, reclaimed bluestone, and salvaged boulders reinterpret the geometry of the former structure as a framework for new life.
The experience begins in the Woodland Entrance, where understory plantings of ferns, native shrubs, and shade perennials create a soft, immersive transition from forest to home. Salvaged boulders and low stone walls guide the approach. From this dappled threshold, the path leads into the Cutting Garden, weaving around amoeba-like planting pods filled with native perennials, herbs, and seasonal blooms—a living palette from which the clients can cut bouquets while supporting pollinators and soil health. The sequence culminates at the Dining Terrace, where bluestone paving, fieldstone sitting walls, and low, textural plantings frame a space for gathering that visually connects to the sculpted meadows and water beyond.
Together, these spaces compose a study in controlled chaos—formal lines softened by layered planting, transforming a once-scarred site into a place of beauty, memory, and continual regeneration.
