Beauty Interrupted

Created during what the designer sees as a fragile moment for American democracy, Beauty Interrupted leverages the 2025 San Francisco Decorator Showcase platform to deliver a message. Its “wow factor” lies not only in craft and spectacle but in its strategic use of design as a tool for change.

A blood-spattered damask wallpaper—its bee motif layered over tradition—sets the stage for a meditation on collective responsibility. A bespoke parametric desk flows from wall to work surface, each wooden slice echoing the power of many acting as one. Hive-like pendants and a patchworked hair-on-hide rug reinforce the concept of impact through unity.

The details are equally pointed: a curated stack of civic-minded books and, on the desk, a typewriter holding an original poem reflecting on the act of design in the face of tragedy. On the wall, an all-American beauty sitting down to a Thanksgiving meal appears unsettled by something outside her window—a reminder to look beyond the comfortable, beyond these showcase walls, and pay attention to what's going on in the world.

While the room shines a light on chaos in our world, it simultaneously delivers a positive message: we can come together to resolve the issues of our day.
