Workshop/APD
Situated on a bucolic East Hampton lot abutting a multi-acre horse farm, Workshop/APD devised a dramatically different weekend getaway for an NYC-based client and his guests. The home, a composition of crisp gabled forms rendered in rich black shou sugi ban wood, houses a primary suite, open plan living room, dining room, and kitchen on one side of a covered exterior corridor, and two private guests suites on the other, all facing an extraordinary pool surrounded on three sides by a lush meadow. The home's masculine interior spaces are characterized by soaring gabled ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glass, poured cement floors and a cool, streamlined color palette that directs eyes outwards to jaw-dropping flora and fauna. Inviting, seemingly effortless and low-maintenance, the home is perfect for frequent entertaining, and has quickly become the go-to retreat for a friends and family. The client took on the home's interior design as a deeply personal passion project, incorporating pieces collected from his frequent travels, mid-century furnishings, and eclectic artworks.
